Any Universal “Language” Will Always Stop Just Short of Where Real Communication Begins—in Difference, Deviation and Distinction.
Poster Deaign
This poster is inspired by the article “The Critical ‘Languages’ of a Graphic Design” from Looking Closer 4: Critical Writings on Graphic Design. The author asserts that "there is no universal language," a notion that serves as the conceptual foundation of this design.
In contemporary visual culture, design language is not a singular, universally understood system but rather a diverse set of expressions shaped by context, culture, and audience perception. Through layered typography, misaligned text, and varied visual symbols, the poster explores how language is translated, interpreted, and reshaped across different media. The fluidity of information, the subjectivity of meaning, and the multiplicity of design approaches come together in this visual experiment.
This work invites viewers to question the boundaries of “graphic language” — if no language is truly universal, can design become a medium that transcends linguistic barriers?
